Not to far away, soon we will be seeing this epic addition of the Marvel saga. So, as the release date draws closer (12/2/18), we are left wondering what should we expect? Who is responsible for the creation and what were the social impact on this comic series?
At the age of 31 Ryan Coogler, has become a must watch filmmaker, having won several awards for other work. Not only is he a relatively young director, he hasn’t created a film this size before.
The film has been in production since 2011when Marvel Studios hired Mark Bailey to pen a Black Panther script. Bailey was an unusual choice for the script, however his writing background on HBO documentaries such as Pandemic; Facing AIDS and the Emmy-award-winning, Ghosts of Abu Ghraib suggests that he may be more than qualified to create this film.
In an interview with teen vogue, Lupita Nyong'o and Letitia Wright opened up about what the film, which has a predominantly black cast and crew and is about an African hero, will mean for not just the black community, but for other minority communities as well.
"I'm excited for what Black Panther is about to do, not just for young black boys and girls, but for everyone," Wright said. "There's a black superhero, but then we're going to have more Asian superheroes and more from India. The solution to the problem being: We don't have enough of this, so we're going to make more. I'm excited!"
Both Coogler and Bailer are unusual choices for this film, but maybe this is something that will give the movie a strong edge, something unique. So far Marvel has hit the nail on the head every time, but I guess we will have to wait and see.
